The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line offer Peshawar’s 1.9 million residents with an affordable and flexible alternative for commuting.
The 26-kilometer-long corridor, that extends from Chamkani area to Hayatabad, will be much beneficial for daily commuters, especially those living in high-density areas.
BRT will run on 8 feeder routes and have 32 stations. 300 air-conditioned buses, with each bus having 90 seats, have been geared up.
Currently, aggravated commuters have to go through multiple issues every day. A student Jamil Ahmed is one of such commuters. He has to wait for an hour at the bus stop daily to take a ride to his college.

A woman, standing next to Jamil, added:
Public buses are not very safe for women. I have never felt comfortable. Hopefully, in the new transportation system, there will be separate compartments for females.
As per the project plan, Chamkani, Dabgari and Hayatabad stations will have plenty of parking space for passengers who want to park their cars at respective stations.
The project has three construction phases:
- Chamkani to Soekarno Chowk
- Soekarno Chowk to Aman Chowk
- Aman Chowk to Hayatabad
The construction, however, is ongoing simultaneously.
A few officials are not sure if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf-led provincial government will be able to complete the project within the estimated time frame.
A provincial minister said:
At current pace, only 70% can be completed before the summer holidays.
However, Israrul Haq, the director general of the Peshawar Development Authority, declined any such estimates.
Delaying the project is unthinkable. The contractors have been warned that failure to complete the project on time will result in legal proceedings.
The Asian Development Bank has loaned Rs. 42 billion for Peshawar BRT, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is bearing the rest of the cost (Rs. 7 billion) itself.
